About Anthony and AVS Fitness

Hello! I’m Anthony, the creator of AVS Fitness.

My fitness journey began as a lifelong athlete and gym rat with a passion for cooking. After serving as an Air Traffic Controller in the Air Force, I earned my degree in exercise science. I started personal training while in school, and I have been doing it ever since.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked in and participated in several very different fitness environments. I’ve seen firsthand the difference between coaching built around exercise science and results, and environments where sales, trends, and questionable feel-good training methods take priority over effective programming.

I worked for one large fitness corporation where we were encouraged to mislead members and tell them whatever it took to sign up. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon, as the fitness industry is full of misinformation, and it can be incredibly difficult for the average person to distinguish good advice from bullshit without years of experience or education.

That’s why I created AVS Fitness. AVS Fitness is a project to take my years of practical and academic experience and help you apply them to your life without needing to make it your life’s work.

The only thing I’m trying to sell you is my coaching, but hey at least I’m honest about it. I made this site free because I believe knowledge should be free, and no matter how much you learn here it won’t fully replicate the personalized, active feedback my coaching provides

My Training Philosophy – Everyday Athleticism

Train like an athlete. Look like an athlete.

My approach to fitness is pretty simple. I want you to look good, feel good, and be capable of doing whatever life throws at you.

Using the same strength and conditioning principles used to train competitive athletes, I build programs that develop muscle, strength, explosiveness, coordination, and endurance. The difference is that I adapt those principles to everyday people who want to get in great shape without making fitness their entire life.

You don’t need to train to tackle a 300-pound lineman, but you probably want to wrestle with your kids. You don’t need a 36-inch vertical, but you might want to play better basketball or volleyball with your friends.

Same principles. Different goals.

Every workout has a purpose. We lead with explosive movements, prioritize strength and muscle building, and incorporate coordination and conditioning to develop a capable body and aesthetic physique. Exercises aren’t randomly thrown together to make you tired. Each exercise has a specific purpose, and workouts are structured based on exercise science, but simple enough for you to follow.

Everyone has different goals, abilities, and schedules, so every program is tailored to the individual.

The goal isn’t to make you a professional athlete. It’s to help you build an attractive physique and become as athletic as possible while still having time and energy to enjoy your life.

My Nutrition Philosophy: Eat Balance and Varied

I like to tell my clients that I can get you in great shape with just a few hours of training each week, but you’ve got to eat every damn day.

I have been cooking since I was a little kid and always make sure my food tastes good. A lot of people assume fitness means bland food, but you can build muscle, lose fat, and improve your health while eating food you genuinely enjoy.

I always try to make nutrition simple and make sure the food tastes good. I separate weekday meals and special occasions. During the week, you’ve got responsibilities, so keep cooking simple, cleanup easy, and meals nutritious. Save the caloric meals for date night, dinner parties, and other social events. If you do that, I guarantee you will appreciate those meals so much more.

I have two main principles I use to keep my diet simple. The 80/20 rule and eating a wide variety of different foods.

If 80% of your diet is healthy, unprocessed food, you will likely have built a solid foundation.

Additionally, if you eat as many different colors, food groups, and a variety of unprocessed whole foods as possible, you will naturally hit most of your nutrients. There is no special superfood. The real superfood is eating a variety of different foods and getting all their nutrients

Why should you work with me?

I cut through the industry bullshit. The fitness world thrives on your insecurities, selling overpriced supplements and quick fixes. I’m not here to sell you a fantasy. I’m here to help you build real, lasting results. You don’t need fancy supplements or a complicated diet. What you really need is determination, consistency, and belief in your own capabilities.

I’m not just a guy with big biceps. I have over a decade of personal lifting experience, a degree in exercise science, a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS), a certified personal trainer (CPT), years of training clients professionally, and my own training methodology.

My training methodology was built to take all the complex science I spent years studying and compress it down into an easy to follow method for the everyday person. You don’t need to understand things like glycolytic vs oxidative energy to improve those systems. If you want the results without needing the science, I make it easy for you, however, if you want the science, I’m happy to teach you as well.
